Graco Voluntary Stroller Recall Information

Although JustStrollers.com and JustDoubleStrollers.com carry NONE of the stroller models that were voluntarily recalled by Graco, we want to share some information about recalls in general and about the recent Graco voluntary recall. Read on for details.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is an independent government agency that since 1972 has been charged with protecting consumers from injuries caused by unsafe or potentially unsafe products. It's done a good job: over the past three decades, injuries and deaths attributable to unsafe consumer products have declined by 30%.

If the CPSC verifies reports indicating that a product is potentially unsafe, a nationwide product recall announcement is made, and buyers who've registered that product receive a direct notification of its recall. Juvenile products such as strollers, toys, and cribs are included in the purview of the CPSC, and stroller recalls do sometimes occur.

A recent product recall by the CPSC is for strollers manufactured by Graco. Though JustStrollers.com and Just DoubleStrollers.com carry a number of Graco strollers, none of the models we carry were included in the CPSC recall.

The Graco stroller recall was prompted by seven reports of finger injuries attributable to the hinges on the stroller canopy of the recalled models. As an indication of how seriously the CPSC takes child safety, these seven injuries prompted a voluntary recall of 1.5 million units of strollers that were manufactured over a period of nearly 3.5 years.

Though JustStrollers.com does not sell any of the recalled strollers, we've provided a list below of the affected products and model numbers. These models were made with two different hinge mechanism styles. Only those strollers that were manufactured between October 2004 and February 2008 and have a plastic, jointed hinge mechanism and indented canopy positioning notches are included in the recall.

If you suspect your stroller is part of the recall, you can check its model number and manufacturing date on the lower inside portion of the rear frame, just above the rear wheels. If it is a recalled model, stop using it immediately. Contact Graco, and they will provide a free protective cover repair kit for the hinge mechanism.

The recall affects the Graco Passage, Alano, and Spree strollers and travel systems with the following model numbers:
