Stroller Accessory Guide

Wheels When it comes to wheels on your stroller, you have three basic choices: hollow plastic, solid composite, and air-filled. The hollow plastic wheels are lightweight and inexpensive, but not extremely durable. The solid composite provide a slightly smoother ride than the hollow plastic and are much more durable. The air-filled tires provide a smooth ride over most any terrain or bumps. They are very durable, but they are somewhat expensive and do require maintenance like any other air-filled rubber tires. |
Handles
There are two styles of handles. Some strollers will have one horizontal "crossbar"-style handle. These are easy to steer with one hand and easy to control. Others will have two separate handles on either side of the seat.
Regardless of the style of handles, strollers will offer extra features for the handles. Some can be swiveled back and forth, or you can find others that are telescopic, allowing comfort for parents of varying heights.
Trays
Some strollers will come equipped with trays for both the child and the parents. Child trays are useful for holding cups and snacks while the child is surveying the passing terrain. Trays for parents can hold cell phones or a drink of their own.
Storage
Most strollers will have a storage area below the seat. These are usually mesh slings that can be great for holding diaper bags or purses. The mesh slings are lightweight and convenient for storage, but they can be overloaded, resulting in scraping against the ground. Strollers equipped with a solid bottom storage area are also available.
