Stroller Glossary

Baby Bicycle Trailer: A trailer safe for children that can be hitched to the rear of a bicycle. Some models are available that can convert from trailer to jogging stroller with only a few adjustments. Canopy: The canopy is the hood found on most strollers and prams that protects the child from the sunlight and elements. |
Jogging Stroller: The jogging stroller is the all-terrain vehicle of baby carriers. These are equipped with large inflatable tires. The tires allow the stroller to be pushed at high speeds over rough terrain without making the ride uncomfortable for the child.
"Multiple" Strollers: Popular for years now, you can find strollers for multiple children. These are sometimes called tandem strollers or double strollers. You can even find triple strollers.
Pram: The pram is the precursor to the modern day stroller. Popular since the late 19th century, the pram allows the baby to lie flat and face the pusher. In recent decades, their lack of features and relatively large size have caused a lag in popularity.
Reversible Stroller: The reversible stroller has a swiveling handle. This allows the parents to choose whether the child is facing them or outward while they are pushing.
Travel System: The travel system consists of a large stroller frame into which an infant car seat and/or a toddler seat can be inserted. The travel system allows the parent to take the car seat out of the car and place it directly into the stroller frame. It serves as both car seat and stroller, which can be extremely convenient.
Umbrella Stroller: The umbrella stroller is the most basic type of stroller. The simplest models consist of a seat suspended between two lightweight handles. They are generally lightweight, and most can be easily collapsed for easy transport or storage.
